TAK Response Conference

It is an honor to partner with the TAK Response conference in San Jose from September 14th – 16th.  Pennwell and Chronicles of EMS is coming together to help the EMS industry learn more about inter-agency collaboration.  We recently had a few guests from the TAK Response on the show “Seat at the Table”.  EMS Providers from all over the world are now looking at this conference as a way to learn more about how to handle the hurdles of inter-agency communications.

Screen shot 2010-01-01 at 2.32.59 PMWe are three days into the post production on the web series called “Finding The One” with Michael Navarra/ Director.  The pilot episode is a look into sex and dating in the 21st century with social media and the internet playing such a big part in how people meet these days.  Michael wrote, directed and acted in this and he has seen the project through from the very onset, so he felt it was important for him to be there during the rough edit to make sure the right scene and take was used to match the acting with his vision for the project.  Editing has taken a bit longer, but I feel it has made the process a bit more efficient from the beginning.

From the onset I went to red.com to download the Red Cine codecs for quicktime and I was able to open the files even before we imported them into the NLE of FCP 7.  I organized the clips on the hard drive from scene, take and any details that would allow the actually importing into FCP easier.  One lesson that was learned here was just how important it is to make sure and slate EVERYTHING! Yes I mean EVERYTHING!  We filmed on the RED HD and downloaded it each night a the end of filming, but did not have a chance to really organize the footage like I wanted to so it was a great too to have a very logical sense of how the story played out on each scene.  In three days we have been able to get through about 60% of the episode and have a great sense of the story so far.  We are editing the 2k version (2000 x 1000 in a 2:1 aspect ratio), but there are a few clips where we brought the 4k version in to change the scene dynamics.  I am extremely impressed with how the RED footage looks and can see why it is so important to pick the right camera for the right look and feel you want to achieve.  You can view more on how the production is coming along at FindingTheOne.tv

Director/ Actor Michael Navarra has me to edit the web series pilot of “Finding the One”. This web series is a departure from an EMS focused concept and dives into comedy and relationships. We are looking forward to the next few week of how this comes together since I was there on set and know how well it was shot it will be fun to put together! This series was shot on the RED One cinema camera and takes web series to a whole new level.

From my experience working with many EMS organizations we are still a very conservative group, but there are a few supporters of Social Media in the EMS industry as I learned from Richard M Huff (@richmhuff) Chief of Atlantic Highlands in New Jersey and Journalist for the New York Daily News.  We spent a week with him at the EMS Expo and found that there is a growing consensus that EMS truly needs this to improve communication among EMS professionals everywhere! Check him out at http://www.ahfirstaid.org

EMS Expo in Atlanta was a huge success from a marketing,  promotion, social media, podcasting, streaming live, video production standpoint.  So much was accomplished with such a little crew I still sit back in amazement.  Carissa Caramanis O’Brien, Chris Montera, Chris Eldridge, Jamie Davis and Greg Friese all participated to make this a major success.  We even were able to host the First Ever EMS Expo Live Tweetup at the STATS Bar in Atlanta on Thursday night.  With over 35 people joining the party and more joining online live as we streamed interviews and commentary about the EMS Expo it was apparent that we just made history! Here is another short video clip from the EMS Expo Live!

As I filmed and recorded the EMS Educasts from Greg Friese NREMT-P, Medic Casts from Jamie Davis RN, EMT-P it was obvious that education in EMS needs a shot of Epi. We discussed how Entertainment and Education combined has such a better impact on students. Here is an interview on Medic Cast with Host Jamie Davis about “Level Zero” An EMS Documentary.
